Ronald McDonald House® of El Paso
The idea behind the Ronald McDonald House program is simple: Provide a "home away from home" for families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. Some children must travel great distances to get medical attention. In-hospital treatment may last one day, one year or longer. For these children's families, accommodations can be hard to come by. Options often are limited to costly hotels or uncomfortable hospital chairs and benches. The Ronald McDonald House of El Paso provides a comfortable, supportive alternative. It serves as a temporary residence near medical facilities where family members can sleep, eat, relax and find support from other families in similar situations. In return, families are asked to make a donation of $10 per day, but if that isn't possible, their stay is free.
Our single-story House was constructed in 2002 and can accommodate up to ten families each night. Each suite is equipped with wheelchair friendly bathrooms, in-room air temperature controls, high speed internet access, cable television, one or two queen sized beds and all bed and bathroom linens. Guests live in our House as if it was their own, preparing and eating their meals, relaxing in the living areas, playing in the central playroom and helping to keep the House clean. Our kitchen is equipped with three distinct work stations for multiple families to prepare meals simultaneously. In the kitchen you will find everyday household items: dinnerware, flatware, cookware, bake ware, small appliances and kitchen gadgets. The living areas contain cable television, DVD/VCR players, computers with high speed internet access and a library. The central playroom has a large commercial play area, it is an indoor space where a kid can be a kid. Transportation is available to all families staying at Ronald McDonald House of El Paso.
